Lilac Ruffle Sleeve Cardigan

summer to fall outfit idea

I am sure you are starting to sense a common theme around here. Yes, I will confess. I have a ruffle problem. And the funniest thing is until last year, I never really liked them! Ruffles of the past, in my opinion, were over the top girly and often seemed overwhelming. Which I realize is ironic since this lilac ruffle sleeve cardigan has some pretty big sleeves.

Ruffle Sleeve Cardigan

I spotted this cardigan on the first day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and fell in love with the sleeves. After reading the description, I was a little concerned about the sizing because it seemed to run on the larger side. I thought it would be best to try it on in store and decided to take a chance that it would still be available at my local Nordstrom store by the time I got there. When I spotted it in person, I knew it had to be mine. The sizes were pretty picked over and my usual size was gone. I decided to try the size down, which I ultimately ended up purchasing, and I am so thrilled I did. Even with sizing down, the cardigan gives an oversized look that pairs well with the ruffle sleeves.

Lilac: A Color for Fall?

When I first saw the color of this sweater, (it is also available in black) I thought it was an interesting choice for what was supposed to be a fall clothing sale. Traditionally, I think of lilac as a spring and summer color. But, when considering this year’s Pantone Color of the Year (greenery) lilac is definitely a color pairing.  This website is a great resource for color pairings with the Pantone Color of the Year. I have referenced it so many times over the past few months!

Lilac in the Summer and Fall

If you caught yesterday’s post, I talked about styling a white eyelet top for summer and fall. And although this lilac sweater is far from a closet staple or basic piece, I do think it will be easy to style from season to season. Since it is still August, I paired the sweater with a white v-neck tee, high-waisted jeans and nude sandals. As the temperatures cool down, you can style this cardigan with a darker wash (or black wash) of jeans and OTK or ankle boots. This sweater is definitely the statement piece and will stand out no matter how you style it into fall.

I hope you all have a great weekend, friends! Thanks for reading and see you back here on Monday!

  3. This cardigan looks so good on you and I love the way you’ve styled it here with the basic white tee, allowing it truly be the statement of your outfit. I’m glad sizing down worked in this case because it definitely still has that cozy, oversized look! I like to experiment with pastel colors during the winter because I think they create somewhat of an icy vibe, which I think is fitting for the cold season, though I’ve never really tried them during the fall. I have a sweater in a similar shade that I’m going to have to see how I can style come fall, you’ve definitely inspired me 🙂 Thanks for sharing, beautiful, and I hope you’re having a great week so far!
