Fall Layers for Work

styling a tee under a dress

A couple of months ago, I wore this gorgeous burgundy dress as a transitional piece (post here). I paired it with a chambray shirt for a top and skirt effect. Now that the fall temperatures have arrived, I am styling it with a light-weight long sleeve tee. This dress and tee are perfect fall layers for work.

Fall Layers for Work

One of my favorite ways to get more wear out of a sleeveless dress is to pair it with a long sleeve tee. A different type of fall layer but an easy one that can make a sleeveless dress more work appropriate. Washington, D.C. work attire is pretty conservative. And although this is one of my favorite dresses for fall, it is a little low cut. But, pairing it with the tee is the perfect solution while creating a more conservative look for the office.

I went with my usual size since I was planning to wear the tee underneath. I found the top of the dress to be a little big, so if you are thinking you would wear it as a sleeveless dress sans tee, I would consider sizing down.

Fall Ankle Booties

While I was in California at cabi’s Blogger Day (you can read the recap post here) I instantly fell in love with these ankle booties. There is so much to love with these booties: the color blocking detail, back exposed zipper and of course the thicker heel. This bootie looks fabulous with this dress and tee but could also be styled with many of your fall pieces. The black and purple color blocking is super versatile! And the best part: they are comfortable! Definitely an essential for workwear. As for sizing, I am usually a 9.5 but went up to a 10.

I hope you all had a great weekend! We spent the weekend in Pittsburgh exploring my old stomping grounds. I will be recapping our trip next week with some of our favorite restaurants, so stay tuned! Have a great start to the week, friends!

  4. I love the colours of the dress and tee together! I really need more tees like this, I only have a couple which I like to layer under dresses like this when the weather is cooler. It would be nice to have a bigger range of colours! 🙂

Hope you are having a wonderful week so far 🙂
