Keeping My Blonde Hair Bright & Hydrated

keeping my blonde hair bright & hydratedOver the past few years, I have really tried to “up” my hair game. From shampoos and conditioners to masks and styling products, I have started to pay more attention to my locks. A few years ago, I discovered Kérastase and I have never turned back. I have shared their products a few times here (you can see my last two reviews here and here). With the launch of their new product line made especially for blondes, I couldn’t wait to give it a try!

Summer Haircare

It wasn’t until I started paying more attention to my hair that I realized the importance of taking care of your hair in the summer. I always knew that my hair would become dull and dry during the winter from the cold weather. But the summer weather and sun can dry out your hair as well. Needless to say, hydration is important year-round! While all the Kérastase products I have tired are hydrating, I love that the new Blond Absolu collection (see the entire line here) not only hydrates your hair, but also provides brightness. If you are blonde, I’m sure you can relate to this need for hydration and brightness!

Purple Shampoo

Before learning about the launch of Kérastase’s new blonde collection, I had been searching for a purple shampoo to add to my haircare routine. Purple shampoo is a great way to neutralize brassy tones in your hair. After giving a few different brands a try, I was not liking the outcome. And since I wasn’t having much luck in the purple shampoo department, I was honestly expecting a similar result from the Kérastase line. I’ve had the best of luck with all their products, but I was still skeptical when it came to purple shampoo in general.

Just one side note: the shampoo I use from this collection isn’t actually the color purple. I have been using the Bain Lumière Shampoo, which is a clear color. This shampoo is designed to hydrate and bring out the natural shine in your hair without weighing it down. Kérastase does make a true purple shampoo (shop that here) and it is called Bain Ultra-Violet Purple Shampoo. This formula is designed for cool and bleached blondes and grey hair. Since my hair is more of a golden blonde, the hydrating and brightening shampoo works best for me.

Purple Conditioner

While I haven’t been using the purple in color shampoo, I have been using the purple conditioner. Cicaflash Conditioner, the only conditioner in this collection, is safe for all types of blondes. The consistency of this conditioner is more mask-like and it has the moisturizing properties of a mask as well. Not only does this conditioner soften the ends of your hair, it also helps to protect your hair from breakage. One important point to note: leave this conditioner on your hair for no more than 5 minutes.

Blonde Hair Mask

As I mentioned earlier, I have really been loving hair masks. While I do not apply them as frequently as face masks (these days, only once per month for hair masks), it has been easy for me to see results with minimal use. The Masque Ultra-Violet Purple Hair Mask works well for lightened, bleached and cool blondes. The mask is designed to neutralize brassy undertones for brightness while providing even more hydration. As I noted with the conditioner, it’s important to only leave this mask on for about 3 minutes. The longer the mask is on, the more neutralization.

How to Use

Since the Blond Absolu collection from Kérastase is more of a specialty shampoo that has the ability to alter your hair color, I only use this shampoo and conditioner combo once per week. As for the mask, that is more of an every other month timeframe. And just a reminder: it’s very important to watch the amount of time the conditioner and mask stay on your hair! You could easily come out of the shower with a different shade of blonde!

Overall, the Blond Absolu collection is a great once a week shampoo and conditioner routine. While the Densifique is by far my favorite from the Kérastase brand (stay tuned — I will be sharing more about that soon!), I love that Kérastase offers so many different formulas depending on your hair needs. And since I like to rotate my shampoos throughout the week, I have a pretty colorful lineup in our shower 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, friends! Have a great rest of the week and weekend. See you back here on Monday!

  1. Thanks for the recommendation. I love the Kerastase elixir line, so I might like this, too. I’ve been using another one of their products that my stylist recommended, but I think it’s too heavy for my hair. I can’t ever seem to get the product out. Ugh. It smells so good, too. lol.

  2. I love their products! I use the purple shampoo and it really helps keep my blonde super blonde. I love how the products smell too. PLUS…they are always pretty in the shower..the packaging I think is so classy! 🙂
