Work Wear: Then & Now

gal meets glam black mock neck dress

Wow. A lot has changed in the past few weeks. I hope this finds you and your family doing well and staying healthy and safe. I took these pictures before our “new normal” started and it honestly seems like it was years ago. While this was a normal work outfit a little over a month ago, work outfits look a little different these days. Here is a look at work wear: then & now.

Work Wear: Then & Now

Today starts our fourth week working from home. Working completely remote has had it’s challenges; however, I am thankful that I am able to do my 9-5 job from home because I know so many are not able to work during this time. I had been a little quiet here on ABM leading up to March because we were planning for our annual meeting on Capitol Hill for work. Not only are the first few months of the year are “busy season” at work, but planning for our annual meeting was taking up any extra time I had. Like most activities, we had to cancel the meeting the second week of March.

Since then, work has picked back up, with additional efforts in monitoring the response to the virus. It’s funny — I am working way more now that everything has to be done from home! Working out has always been an escape for me, so I am thankful the weather has been pretty nice in the D.C. area. Running outside has been a great way to clear my mind and get some exercise, too. However, I miss Orangetheory like crazy!

Work Wear Then: Mock Neck Black Dress

Earlier in the year, I had been searching for a basic black dress that I could wear for work, church, or even to wear out to dinner. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the purchase of this mock neck dress. Since it’s such a classic style, this dress will be perfect to wear for future falls and winters to come. I also splurged and bought these Gucci tights. I had my eye on them for quite awhile and decided to finally buy them. Tights are pretty frequent accessory in my wardrobe and I thought it would be fun to add these statement tights to my collection.

Work Wear: Now

Well, just a little bit of a difference haha! A lot of mornings, I just end up putting workout clothes on because I know that I am planning to exercise after work. However, on Wednesdays, we have virtual staff meetings (with video!) so I find myself doing at least my hair and makeup on those days. Don’t want to scare my co-workers haha! I have found that I feel better and I am more productive when I put on something besides workout clothes and actually do my hair. I’ve been trying to limit makeup — more on that in another post — so I will stick to a good and hydrating skincare routine everyday except Wednesdays πŸ™‚

  1. Hello there, Rachel! πŸ™‚

Love the first few photos. Very fancy and even luxurious, if I may say. I don’t mind the last few either, they’re more relaxed and chill, home-y looks. Hope you’re doin’ well, girl.

    See ya around! πŸ˜‰

  2. I’m so thankful you can work from home too. I love all these looks. I totally love the comfy clothes but oh how I love to get dressed up too. I do now sometimes and dream of when we can go out in public again, lol.

  3. I hear ya–I feel the same way about being home! It comes with challenges but I’m so thankful I can do it and still have my job! Love those leopard lounge pants–so darn cute!

  5. I’m so happy you are able to work from home! I am on so many video conferences I am usually a little more dressed up on top and causal on the bottom. I love your leopard pants and slippers!

  6. Gorgeous outfit! I love your leopard coat too. Such a statement piece! It is kind of weird that there is more work more now than pre-quarantine. I can’t complain though. It keeps me busy which means no time to keep updated on the news! Happy Monday!

  7. Yay! Glad to see you’re back. I missed you! I’m working from home now too, and so far have been sticking to the same schedule of laying out my clothes the night before work – even though they look a little different now πŸ™‚ And you’re way ahead of me because I haven’t done my hair or makeup in 3 weeks! I just don’t have the energy for that πŸ™‚ Hope you guys are staying safe (and sane). Hoping we can see each other when this is all over..XO

  8. Hahahaha. I love the Then vs. Now idea. I don’t mind working from home at times but I do miss getting dressed up. Since I am having more meetings and video taping my lessons for students, I’ve been putting myself together a lot more than the previous week, in which I was painting the basement in painting clothes. Love that dress and the tights you have featured here today. Can’t wait to see what spring brings.

  9. I’m definitely on the struggle bus…I need a dedicated work space and just have not found something that is working yet. This morning I jumped into working in my yoga pants and then about freaked when I got the alert that I had a zoom meeting in 30 minutes..it was a fast turnaround to presentable! haha
