Spring Silk Scarf

casual spring outfit idea

I am a firm believer in accessories. That is, accessories really can make an outfit. Whether it’s making a look casual or dressy or preppy or edgy, it’s all in the accessories. Although some of my favorite accessories are usually shoes, bags, jewelry and of course lipstick, there is a trend that I have been loving since fall: scarves. Now, I have been wearing scarves (more of the larger and blanket variety) for years, but the square, silk scarf is a newer, more trendy scarf for me. And dare I say, oh so chic? This spring silk scarf is the latest in my collection, and you are never going to believe where I found it.

Spring Silk Scarf

I first gave this square silk scarf trend a try back in the fall with a fun orange scarf (you can see that post here). I have always thought a scarf styled like this was chic and very Parisian. But, instead of dressing the scarf up, I decided to dress it down with one of my go-to spring layers: a green utility jacket. I have raved about this jacket for years and it even made it into my 3 Must-Have Spring Layers (see the post here). It’s the perfect weight for spring and easy to style for a casual look. With the addition of this spring scarf, it dresses the look up just enough to elevate an otherwise casual weekend outfit.

How to Wear a Silk Scarf

There are so many ways to way a silk scarf, but I went with a loose knot for this outfit. Since the jacket has a collar, I went with the looser knot so the scarf could be seen. I also tied the scarf around my bag for a different vibe. It really dresses up this plain, neutral bag.

Today’s hairstyle is brought to you by the wind. We have been seeing some crazy wind for the past few days. The federal government even closed on Friday! I spent much of Friday morning chasing down our garbage and recycling bins (bad day for trash day!). We had 70 mph wind gusts! It continued to be windy throughout the weekend, so this simple updo was necessary for pictures. Although, I think the hairstyle fits in well with the laid back, casual, weekend look.

Have a great start to the week!

  2. You are so cute and chic!! I adore that scarf and the sunshine shining on your pretty face!! Have a great start to your week!

  3. Love this outfit! I love the square light weight scarf trend!! I will be adding at least one to my wardrobe soon for spring!!

  4. I love adding print scarves for spring too. They save me at the office when the air conditioner is on blast as well! 🙂 This one of yours is so spring cute. And I can’t believe the wind you had! We live in a canyon, and get pretty bad winds like that sometimes, so I know how bad it can get….but the city never closes anything down! So yours must have been pretty bad. Hope it’s died down a little for you!

  5. I didn’t really start to love scarves until recently, but they really are such a fun accessory! I haven’t tried any silk scarves, but they really are so chic! I love that you can wear them around your neck or on your purse too!
