Burgundy Dress and Chambray Shirt

cabi burgundy dress outfit

One of my favorite ways to style a sleeveless dress for a different look is pairing it with a chambray shirt. Especially this time of year, a chambray shirt allows you to still mix a little summer into a fall look. The colors in this burgundy midi dress are so vibrant, I couldn’t wait until the temperatures cooled down to share it with you! Not to worry, I will be styling it again for fall. But in the meantime, this burgundy dress and chambray shirt make for the perfect summer to fall transitional look.

Chambray Shirt: An easy way to make a dress a skirt

I have always loved layering. And while layering is typically associated with fall and winter, there are ways to layer during summer, too. Whether it is a shirt underneath a dress or a shirt over top, I love that it can give the dress a completely different look. As mentioned above, I was instantly attracted to these vibrant colors in this cabi dress. I love burgundy for fall, but I really wanted to bring out the blues for an end of summer look. Chambray or denim pairs perfectly with this print and really highlights the other colors in the dress. I considered a denim jacket, but since I was looking for a more tailored look, I topped the dress with my favorite chambray shirt. Stay tuned, I have the most perfect accessories to pair with this dress once the temperatures cool down!

End of summer go-to beige accessories

I have been wearing these beige sandals a lot lately, as I mentioned last week. Since I also have the black pair, I have been rotating between the two a few times a week! I truly can’t rave enough about them. Priced under $60, a lower heel, available in a variety of colors and super comfortable, it’s a great summer sandal. Speaking of summer, along with the addition of the chambray shirt, the beige sandals and bag pair well with this dress to make it seasonally appropriate.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Thanks for reading and see you back here tomorrow!

  1. Brilliant Combo Rachel!! I love adding a chambray shirt with a skirt…such a pretty look!! Happy Monday!

  2. I LOVE this look for mid-August. It’s so perfect! You’ve got the fun, flowy skirt for summer, and the denim top representing fall. You incorporated 2 of the classics perfectly! Hope you had a great weekend, Rachel!

  3. Love how you styled this! A chambray shirt tied over a dress really can make an entire new look and make one piece go so much further.

  4. I feel like I’ve been gone from this space forever, lol! It’s been one of those weeks, but I’m glad I’m able to finally catch up now! Anyway, I love the way you’ve styled the chambray shirt over the the dress, allowing it to serve as a skirt, so clever! I also love the color palette, which is perfect for fall, which I cannot believe is right around the corner (I’m pretty excited about it 🙂
