My Go-To Berry Protein Smoothie

My Go-To Berry Protein Smoothie

I have always been a fan of smoothies. Throughout college and after moving to D.C., I was a frequent customer at Jamba Juice and Robeks. I had a difficult time making smoothies at home: between having the ingredients in the fridge to not knowing the exact proportions, I found it easier to buy them from a smoothie shop. Totally not economical! That was until I discovered Orgain Organic Protein Powder about a year ago. It totally changed my smoothie game and now I have a smoothie at home at least four times per week! Here is my go-to berry protein smoothie recipe.

Orgain Organic Protein Powder

First, I should start by saying that I have never been a protein powder or drink person. Even when I bought my smoothies, I never added protein. I actually discovered Orgain after my mom and dad had asked me about a good protein powder. Needless to say, I couldn’t even tell you a brand of protein powder let alone which ones were good. Let the research begin! The reviews for Orgain were great and turns out, the brand is sold at Costco! While I use this plant based protein powder with superfoods, there are several other options available here.

Packed with 21 grams of protein and 50 organic superfoods, this powder doesn’t leave that awful chalky taste like so many other protein powders. It mixes so well in a smoothie, I don’t even realize I’m drinking it! I prefer the vanilla bean flavor, but it is also available in chocolate. We have the 2 lb. canister at home and it lasts for a pretty long time. Although the directions indicate two scoops are in a serving, I only use one scoop of the powder in my smoothies.

You can shop the entire selection of Orgain products here. Not only do they have this protein powder, but they also have shakes, bars and even kids products!

My Go-To Berry Protein Smoothie

This is the combination I use for my smoothies. I don’t always have Greek yogurt on hand, so I sometimes omit that ingredient. What I love most about this smoothie recipe, and the protein powder in general, is how full you are after drinking this. I usually have my smoothie at lunchtime and won’t even be hungry for dinner! Super unusual coming from a girl who eats three square meals per day and is always hungry haha!

I use this individual blender to make my smoothies. It’s perfect for making one serving and it’s easy to clean up. Here is my go-to berry protein smoothie recipe:

{what you will need}

1/2 cup frozen berries (I usually use the organic berry blend from Costco but I was out so I used this berry/cherry mix found here)

1/2 cup almond milk (I use the unsweetened)

1 scoop of Orgain Organic Protein Powder

1/2 banana

1 spoonful of vanilla Greek yogurt

1 spoonful of peanut butter (makes the smoothie creamy – you don’t even taste the peanut butter!)

{directions}

Place the ingredients in the blender. For my individual blender, I place the ingredients in the blender in this order: frozen berries, banana, protein powder, peanut butter, Greek yogurt and then pour the almond milk over top. If you like you smoothie not as thick, add a little more almond milk. Blend until smooth. Serve and enjoy!
