There is nothing like a good little black dress. I probably have a few too many in my closet, but when you consider it’s versatility, I don’t think having too many is a possibility! And that especially goes for one that you can wear to your 9-5. I picked up this cute fit and flare black dress at the same time I bought the pink one in this post. I knew this simple black dress would be the perfect wear to work dress for summer and fall.

Wear to Work Dress for Summer and Fall

Having shared my love for versatile pieces here on ABM countless times, we have another one to add to the list! I had been searching for a plain wear to work dress. I was looking for both a summer dress and when that would work for fall, too. After not having any luck at Banana Republic or J.Crew, I walked by Ann Taylor and spotted something in the window that caught my eye. I was on my lunch break and thought I would run in quick, not expecting to find anything. Not only did I find this perfect for summer and fall work dress, but also the pink one that I shared last week!

The silhouette of this dress is perfect: a comfortable fit and flare, falls right at the knee (I’m 5’8 for reference) and it has POCKETS! A dress that includes pockets instantly climbs to the top of my favorites list. Wear the dress as is now and pair it with a blazer for the fall months (or now if your office is as cold as mine!). One note about the fabric: it is a linen-blend so it is super cool. However, that also means it does wrinkle. It’s not 100% linen so it’s not as wrinkly as it could be.

Two Notes

Just two items to note, the first being the bug bites all over my left arm! You can probably see the splotchy, red marks in these pictures. They are hard to miss. For whatever reason, bugs are always attracted to me. No joke, if I am outside more than 5 minutes without bug spray, I will have at least 2 mosquito bites. Anyways, while we were shooting the pictures from this post, the mosquitos were absolutely attacking my arms. It wasn’t red at first, but by the second outfit…well, we have picture evidence of what happened. So excuse the bug bites. I was thinking about editing them out but I always hate to see those airbrushed images on blogs. It just doesn’t seem natural, right?! Bug bites on my arm seem extremely natural haha!

The second note is more of a heads up. Things have been pretty crazy in the McCarthy household lately: we are moving! The next month or so is going to be a little busy and if I am absent from my usual Monday-Thursday posts, you will know why. Thankfully, the new house is less than 5 minutes from our current house so the actual move shouldn’t be too bad. I will keep you posted and hopefully when everything is in it’s place, I will be able to share a tour.
